January 2026 General Meeting

Fiber Sculpture: Ellen Dickinson
Thursday, January 15  6:00-8:45 pm (rescheduled)
Syosset Library (Downstairs)
225 S. Oyster Bay Road, Syosset, NY

Ellen Dickinson is a fiber artist whose journey began in Bayside, NY, growing up with  her mother and grandmother’s knitting and crocheting. Not drawn to patterns, she discovered her passion for fiber in high school through a class in Creative Materials and a visit to The American Craft Museum, where she first saw the work of Ferne Jacobs. Inspired, she began sculpting with yarn, later refining her techniques under fiber sculptor Leslie Bohnenkamp in Provincetown, MA.

Specializing in the traditional basketry coiling method, using linen warp and braided poly cord, Dickinson creates freestanding fiber sculptures inspired by natural spirals found in flowers, shells, and water. Her work unites nature and nurture, exploring rhythm, texture, and form. Exhibited nationally—including at The Nassau County Museum of Art and SOFA NY—she has been recognized by the Nassau County Fiber Arts Forum and featured in American CraftFiberarts, and 500 Baskets. Dickinson’s sculptures are in private collections and public spaces, including the Hilton Hotel Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

This meeting is available on Zoom also; members will receive link a few days before the meeting.
